On April 22th, 2023, Vietnam Association for Logistics Manpower Development (VALOMA) officially held an Admission Ceremony for Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) and a seminar on “Logistics and demand for labor in Vietnam’s sector in the context of digital business models”. Both of them took place in PTIT with the participation of members including lecturers, businesses, and students from universities in the Northern region.
This event was attended by Mr. Tran Thanh Hai – Deputy Director General of Import and Export Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade; Mr. Vu Chi Kien – Deputy Director General of Department of Post, Ministry of Information and Communications; Ms. Pham Ngo Thuy Ninh – Head of Training and Human Resource Development Division, Personnel and Organization Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade; Assoc. Prof. Trinh Thi Thu Huong – Vice President of Vietnam Association for Logistics Manpower Development; Ms. Pham Thi Lan Huong – Vice President of Hanoi Logistics Association; Ms. Cao Cam Linh – Head of Research Department of VALOMA and representatives of logistics companies as speakers of seminar.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Vu Tuan Lam – Vice Director of Institute said that in the ever-evolving logistics industry, PTIT will open more education programs in this field as well as ensure the teaching quality to meet market’s human resource demand with the support of Vietnam Association for Logistics Manpower Development.

Realizing the potential and desire to develop Logistics majors, Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology has applied to join Vietnam Association for Logistics Manpower Development. Today, under the witness of Mr. Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of Import and Export Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade, and Mr. Vu Chi Kien – Deputy Director General of the Department of Post, Ministry of Information and Communications, Assoc. Prof. Trinh Thi Thu Huong – Vice President of Vietnam Association for Logistics Manpower Development officially issued the Membership Certificate to Dr. Vu Tuan Lam – Vice Director, representative of PTIT.

Immediately after the Admission Ceremony, the seminar “Logistics and demand for labor in Vietnam’s sector in the context of digital business models” was organized with discussions on multi-dimensional perspectives on the current situation of human resources in Vietnam’s logistics industry. At the beginning, Mr. Tran Thanh Hai affirmed the aspiration to change the logistics industry in the Digital Age through his presentation “Vietnam Logistics at the turning point of era”. From the perspectives of the academic institution, Assoc. Prof. Trinh Thi Thu Huong – Vice President of VALOMA analyzed the changes in demand and recruitment requirements for logistics human resources in the future compared to the present, through the presentation “Demand and Recruitment requirements for Human Resource in Logistics: Current situation and Emerging trends”.
Ms. Pham Lan Huong – Vice President of Hanoi Logistic Association introduced “Job opportunities in the Logistics sector” to over 300 students.
At the end of the first session, Ms. Pham Lan Huong – Vice President of Hanoi Logistics Association, a leading expert in integrated logistics, presented “Job opportunities in the Logistics sector”. She said, “In terms of general skills, 100% of positions need to be retrained; however, adaptation level after training greatly depends on foundation skills and knowledge of students”.
Seminar’s discussion session
The second session was discussions among experts about the logistics sector in the context of digital transformation, hosted by Mr. Tran Thanh Hai with the participation of Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Thoa – an expert in the Last mile Logistics – VALOMA Research Department, who is in charge of the Northern region of Shopee Express Co. Ltd; Mr. Nguyen Khanh Thanh – Deputy Director of ALP Logistics Joint Stock Company; Mr. Pham Van Hai – Director of Training at DH Logistics Company Limited; Mr. Dinh Hoai Nam – Director of Business Development of Sea Logistics Partners (SLP) Company.
During the panel discussion, many students enthusiastically asked plenty of practical questions. In terms of questions about the impacts of the resurgence of COVID-19 on the logistics sector in the future, Mr. Nguyen Khanh Thanh – Deputy Director of ALP Logistics., JSC said that Vietnam has experience in coping with COVID-19; therefore, the return of the pandemic will not severely affect the economy in general, and the logistics sector in particular. Regarding the concern about the influences of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on employment in the logistics industry, Mr. Dinh Hoai Nam – Director of Business Development of Sea Logistics Partners (SLP VN) Company claimed that humans still play a key role in understanding services and business cultures to communicate to clients. Besides, many questions about job opportunities and requirements of businesses for students were raised and answered.

In particular, Ms. Cao Cam Linh – Head of Research Department of Vietnam Association for Logistics Manpower Development also claimed that besides the support of lecturers, students should actively participate in clubs and project teams, such as Vietnam student Logistics club network (LCN) in order to broaden their own network, update the latest news and opportunities that could benefit their career. Vietnam student Logistics club network (LCN) has become a reputable organization and useful playground for students having a passion for Logistics and Supply Chain Management. Where there is a will, there is a way. If students do not take steps, they will never find a company and see an opportunity. Do not think too far ahead and start doing now from the smallest things.
The seminar ended successfully at noon on the same day with memorable group photos taken among guests, speakers, and all participating students who hoped for more sharing seminars in the future.
