The first batch of Luc Ngan lychee exported through Dong Dang railway station
On June 5, Customs Sub-department of Dong Dang international railway station (Lang Son Customs Department) has just completed the procedure to export a trial shipment of Luc Ngan lychee (Bac Giang) transported by railway to the Chinese market.
To ensure quality during transportation, the Railway Transport and Trade Joint Stock Company (Ratraco) has implemented the necessary processes for a successful export shipment. To serve the lychees crop in 2023, the unit has prepared specialized freight vehicles that can meet the transportation demand from 200 tons to 300 tons of fresh lychee/day, meeting the demand for transporting fresh lychees by international railway. In the coming days, the unit will continue to cooperate with enterprises importing and exporting agricultural products and Dong Dang International Railway Station Customs Sub-department to carry out export shipments of fresh fruit, especially fresh lychees from Bac Giang to the Chinese market.
Accordingly, when transporting fresh lychees to China by international rail, Ratraco will bring specialized refrigerated containers to the enterprise’s warehouse. After the goods are packed and loaded onto the container, Ratraco will transport them to the Kep International Intermodal Terminal for transportation to the International Railway Station Border Gate to complete the procedures to export the goods. For the export of fresh lychees to China by railway, enterprises must complete the procedures to export goods by official channels.
Accompanying businesses and citizens, besides the efforts of agencies and functional forces, Dong Dang International Railway Station Customs Sub-department has informed and propagated to the business community so that the businesses understand the situation, from which to switch to import and export goods through the railway border gate.
At the same time, Dong Dang Station Customs has also been closely coordinating with Dong Dang Station to ensure the good implementation of the control, operation, and transportation of wagons and goods on the basis of strictly implementing the process of controlling disease, ensuring the complete elimination of possible risks.
According to the information from the People’s Committee of Bac Giang province, with an area of over 17,000 hectares of lychee cultivation, 178 planting area codes will be granted for export to the markets of China, Japan, the United States and Thailand. In 2023, the number of fresh lychees in the province is estimated to reach about 177,000 tons. With the estimated output of fresh lychees, the province has directed the growing regions to learn and choose a convenient transportation method for lychee consumption, especially for export.
The export of Luc Ngan lychees through Dong Dang Railway Station is a new direction, opening up opportunities for Vietnamese agricultural products to be quickly exported to China in the context of many limitations with road border gates as it is today.
Establishing a Customs Professional Team to facilitate customs clearance of goods at Kep Station – Bac Giang
On June 8, Mr. Nguyen Van Can – Director of the General Department of Customs – signed the Decision to establish the Customs Professional Team of Kep Station under the Customs Sub-Department managing Bac Giang industrial zones (Bac Ninh Department of Customs). The decision will take effect from July 1, 2023.
Previously, on February 18, 2023, the Vietnam Railways Corporation coordinated with the People’s Committee of Bac Giang province to organize the opening ceremony of international intermodal activities at Kep Station in Huong Son commune, Lang Giang district (Bac Giang). Kep Station is classified as a grade 2 railway station, located at Km 68+700 on the Hanoi – Dong Dang route. The station is the starting point of two railway lines Kep – Ha Long – Cai Lan and Kep Luu Xa. Kep Station is designed with 9 rails with two storage facilities for service equipment, two loading and unloading yards and a concrete cargo yard. In 2022, the Vietnam Railways Corporation completed the upgrade, renovation and repair (phase 1) of the Kep station cargo yard with an area of nearly 28,000 m2. The improved infrastructure is a stepping stone so that on January 19, 2023, the Ministry of Transport issued a decision allowing Kep station to temporarily operate international intermodal activities.
The Vietnam Railways Corporation develops the exploitation plan for the first phase (2023-2024) of Kep Station. The plan will accordingly establish an average international intermodal train of 1.5-2 pairs/day on the route Kep – Dong Dang (Lang Son) – Bang Tuong (China); organize the establishment, dissolution, and transit of North-South domestic ships of 1 pair/day. With an average loading and unloading capacity of 80-100 wagons/container/day, Kep Station is expected to contribute to reducing congestion for Yen Vien and Dong Dang Stations in international intermodal transport along the Hanoi – Lang Son railway route to transport goods to China.
The second phase of the exploitation plan from 2025 will be to build a bonded warehouse to serve the import and export activities of enterprises in Bac Giang, Bac Ninh and neighboring provinces. The yard specializes in receiving refrigerated containers transported from the South to gather, carry out customs procedures and arrange transportation by rail for export to China, increasing the expected capacity of phase 2 by 2-2.5 pairs of ships/day.

The demand for cross-border transportation in Southeast Asia has increased sharply.
Cross-border road transport in ASEAN is forecasted to increase sharply thanks to the economic recovery and boom in e-commerce.
According to a report by Google and Bain & Company in 2022, Southeast Asia’s leading digital economies account for $200 billion in total transaction value, up 20% from 2021. The online economy in Southeast Asia is also on track to reach $1 trillion by 2030.
E-commerce in general and cross-border segment in particular have shown strong growth in both Vietnam and Southeast Asian countries. In particular, cross-border online transactions gradually show an important role in business and export strategies, helping to increase revenue and popularity of brands in the market.
In addition, this sector is also currently being focused on and supported by the government, with eased trade restrictions and new initiatives implemented. For example, there is the ASEAN transit electronic customs system, which allows operators to move goods across borders with a single document. Along with that is the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement and Trade Cooperation, promising to be a leverage to promote and support the rapid development of cross-border e-commerce.
Despite being a potential field with many development opportunities, cross-border e-commerce still has many challenges. To achieve sustainable development, in addition to good products, businesses need to be equipped with extensive knowledge of the world market situation. At the same time, they should also connect with reputable cross-border transport service providers to have a suitable, effective and long-term business development strategy.
International transportation and logistics are one of the important factors in exporting goods online. In particular, logistics plays a decisive role in shaping customer experience and satisfaction about businesses. Grasping the cross-border transportation needs of Southeast Asian businesses, many logistics conglomerates have invested in establishing service networks to meet the needs of partners. Up to now, ASEAN countries have formed the first road network specializing in providing international freight services in the market.
Transport businesses can move goods more quickly between Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar and China. The trucking service is not only faster but also cuts costs compared to sea and air. Foreign logistics groups with strong financial potential such as DHL Global Forwarding, BEST Inc, etc. have invested in a bonded warehouse system and built a service network in China and Southeast Asian countries. These investments contribute to the completion of the cross-border transportation network, serving customers in the region.
The rapid growth of cross-border e-commerce has led to a surge in demand for cross-border shipping services in Southeast Asia. To meet the needs of online trade exchanges of partners in the region, BEST Inc. has consolidated infrastructure, expanded the route providing comprehensive cross-border transportation services to customers and partners in the region. BEST Inc. added multi-national shipping services, warehouse leasing, bonded warehouses, customs clearance support and last-mile delivery.
BEST Cross-border is a cross-border transportation service that is exclusively opened for Southeast Asia, including: multinational transportation, warehouse leasing, bonded warehouses for storing goods waiting for export, carrying out customs procedures at the border gate and final delivery (delivery to the final recipient).
When the customer requests the service, the BEST team will come to the warehouse to receive and bring the goods to the transhipment warehouse. The unit then transports the goods to the border warehouses. Completing customs declaration procedures at the export border gate, the parcels will be transported by international routes.
Other procedures in the receiving country are also carried out with the same process. Goods passing through customs will be transported by the domestic delivery route and delivered to the buyer.
Not only providing transportation services, BEST also connects directly with a network of local customs declaration personnel. They will actively support the process of carrying out procedures at border gates directly, ensuring the speed of goods circulation. Customers can use a part- or a full-service package of BEST depending on their needs.
BEST’s cross-border transportation service will directly connect China with 7 Southeast Asian countries including Thailand, Cambodia, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam and vice versa. This connection helps consumers in these 7 countries easily shop, transact with shops in the country of billions of people as well as enhance transactions between Southeast Asian countries. The parcel will be delivered directly by BEST, not through any intermediary delivery unit.
BEST Express currently provides comprehensive services on all three routes by land, sea and air. In addition to allowing users and partners flexible choices, the unit also optimizes costs to meet the needs of each partner.
“With more than 15 years of experience in the logistics industry, BEST Inc. provides services to more than 100,000 global partners, supporting the transportation of many types of goods such as fashion, electronic equipment, raw materials, household appliances, etc. Thanks to that, we know how to store and transport goods. appropriate transport for each group of goods, ensuring that the product is intact during the transportation process”, a representative of BEST Express shared.
